ABOUT SARI
HISTORY
There was the Nigerian Society for Study of Reproduction (NSSR) which was inaugurated in 1978 but which has become inactive for over two decades. The idea to resuscitate NSSR was first mooted by some mentees of retired Professor G.N. Egbunike (one of the founding members of NSSR) while on a visit to his Asaba residence in November 2019. The stage for actual resuscitation was set on Monday 24 january 2022 when a group of animal reproductive physiologists and veterinary theriogenologists met in the Board room of the Department of Animal Science, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria, to discuss the new face for NSSR. Participants at the meeting critically reviewed the developments in the field of Reproduction in Nigeria since NSSR went underground and jointly agreed that a new society dedicated to animal reproduction be floated, which finally led to the formation of the Society for Animal Reproduction and Improvement (SARI) with an international outlook.
